International Infiniti History
Infiniti is apart of the Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. This luxury car branch from the larger size Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. has been selling automobiles in the United States since 1989. Infiniti automobiles have grown in popularity and now encompass a larger global market including Russia, Switzerland, China, and South Korea. The Japanese developed Infiniti vehicles as an alternative to the more mainstream Nissan vehicles being sold in the United States. They wanted to give people a luxury car that was somewhat different. The formula for success worked. Infiniti came out around the same time as Toyota, Honda, and Lexus luxury cars that were being produced, so there was already a competitive market out there. The Q45 (the Infiniti marque) was one of the first vehicles produced by Infiniti. It had a V8 engine that carried 278 horsepower. It also came equipped with four wheel steering and an active suspension system.
Infiniti brought about new luxury models to compete, such as the M30 coupe, a 2-door vehicle with a VG30E engine and automatic transmission. However, the M30 coupe did not have a lot of horsepower, and its weight was tremendous. This vehicle was intended to be a sport coupe, and the convertible version weighed even more, so sales were slow here. The Infiniti G20 was introduced in 1990. This vehicle was decked out in leather. It came with a unique fuel injection feature for enhanced performance. Sales in general were slow among these vehicles, and many blamed bad advertising as the cause. The ads did not actually show the vehicles, but talked about the natural balance and tranquility of driving such a car. The company started to focus on a tremendous lineup of sport luxury cars. The G35 was what got the ball rolling in the right direction for Infiniti in 2003. This vehicle was nominated as Motor Trend Car of the Year in 2003 and combined sports car handling and overall performance, with the versatility of a station wagon, and performed great under all sorts of weather conditions. The vehicle became an instant hit, and Infiniti was well on its way to success from here on out. Eventually the company developed SUV style vehicles, such as the Infiniti QX56, and Infiniti continues to come out with innovative new models that are attracting people all over the world.
